At Harvard, where he oversaw the Inflammation, Immunity, and Transplantation Focus Group at the Schepens Eye Research Institute, Santa Ono started his professional career. He participated in two NIH Training grants in ophthalmology and the executive committee of the Harvard Program in Immunology while there (Ocular Immunology and Molecular Bases of Eye Diseases).
