APPLY NOW: 2023-2024 Global Korea Scholarship For Students To Study In Korea 

SCOPE 

The National Institute for International Education Development (NIIED) recently published the instructions for applying to the Global Korea Scholarship, which stands for the (GKS) Korean Government Scholarship Program for Graduate Degrees. This program’s goal is to provide 1300 scholarships to students from around the world who want to study for a Master’s or Doctoral degree in Korea

SCHOLARSHIPS DETAILS.

The main goal of the Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) is to give students from around the world a chance to study at universities in Korea and earn academic degrees. This program aims to strengthen the friendship between Korea and the countries that take part, while also promoting international education exchange.

It’s important to mention that the Korean Government Scholarship Program was renamed the Global Korea Scholarship in 2010. As a result, they’re now referred to as GKS. In 2023, GKS offers opportunities not only for Master’s and Doctoral Degrees but also for research programs. Embassy Pathway = 650 Students

SCHOLARSHIP SUMMARY:

SCHOLARSHIPS BENEFITS AND DURATION 

Master’s Degree Program: 3 years

12 months of learning Korean + 24 months of specialized study

Doctoral Degree Program: 4 years

12 months of learning Korean + 36 months of advanced study

Research Opportunity: 6 months or 1 year

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

Nationality Requirement:

Candidates need to be citizens of countries selected by the National Institute for International Education Development (NIIED) for the GKS program.

If the applicant’s parents or legal guardians hold Korean citizenship or dual citizenship, they can’t apply.

Those who were once Korean citizens must provide proof of renouncing their Korean citizenship.

Changing citizenship during the selection process leads to exclusion, except for the R&D program.

Overseas Koreans with Japanese citizenship can apply if their parents have Korean citizenship and permanent residency in Japan.

Degree Criteria:

For Master’s Program: Candidates need at least a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.

For Doctoral Program: Applicants need a Master’s degree or equivalent.

For Research Program: An invitation from partner universities is required.

Postdoctoral Research: A Doctoral degree by February 28, 2023.

Professor Exchange: A Master’s degree and current university professorship.

Education, Science, Culture, International Cooperation Program: A Master’s degree and professional experience in relevant fields are necessary by February 28, 2023.

In brief, eligibility for the GKS program involves citizenship from specific countries, Bachelor’s/Master’s degree or equivalent, and meeting program-specific requisites. Dual citizens with Korean citizenship, changing citizenship during selection (except R&D), are ineligible.

Grades:

Eligibility requires a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) that meets these conditions:

Doctoral Applicants: Previous Master’s CGPA higher than 2.64/4.0, 2.80/4.3, 2.91/4.5, or 3.23/5.0. Score percentile ≥80% or top 20% class rank. An academic transcript showing CGPA/rank is necessary. If the transcript lacks accepted GPA scales, provide a converted transcript.

Age:

Applicants must be under 40, born after September 1, 1983. Academic professors from ODA recipients can apply if under 45, and born after September 1, 1978.

Health:

Good mental and physical health is required throughout the program.
